LIP SERVICE
“Lip service” means publicly expressing agreement, support, or loyalty to an idea or cause, while taking no actual action to back it up. It describes insincere words that are not followed by meaningful follow-through or genuine commitment.”
It is interesting from this definition that scripture brings a completely opposite idea concerning worship. Lip Service is a recommendation for continual worship. It is an ‘offering’ to the Father from an adoring heart. Paul, an apostle wrote in his closing words of the Hebrew letter:
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name” (Hebrews 13:15).
The fruit of our lips is what flows from our heart. Jesus said: “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart…” (Matthew 15:18) They may be praise and worship or defilement of some kind.
Lord, purify our hearts, to purify our lips, to give you praise and worship.
“Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’” Jesus
