HEART WORSHIP
To worship the Lord in “Spirit and in Truth” (John 4:23) is to worship with “our whole heart, mind, soul and strength” (Luke 10:27). We worship what we love.
If worship becomes fixated on ‘smoke and screens and tight jeans’ then we are still apt to worship what we love. Worship styles and idioms are usually cultural or historical preferences. Because some may find little meaning in a style, of course others may be enthralled. The question is: What does the Father think of our worship?
The Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 asked a similar question: “So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?” (4:20)
The reply must be our reply: “Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.” (4:21)
No matter how or where… worship is the placement of our heart into the heart of the Father in love and Spirit…however we do it.
“You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.”
Jesus
