LOWER WAGES
There are few times and places where we might want to ask for Lower Wages…but sin would certainly be one of those times and places. Paul, an apostle wrote, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Lower my salary here, Lord.
James, another apostle, writes to tell us how sin makes its snaky moves. Here’s the sequential process:
“But each person is tempted
when he is drawn away and
enticed by his own evil desire.
Then after desire has conceived,
it gives birth to sin,
and when sin is fully grown,
it gives birth to death” (James 1:14-15).
Before James shares this process, he reminds us:
“And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else” (James 1:12-13).
Our temptation can be stopped… but our strong desire, or lust (a passionate desire), can draw us away from righteous thought and living. When desire takes over, it gives sin a chance to develop, and this brings death to our Godly Kingdom values.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). I think it is important to remember that though we have ‘eternal life in Christ’ and are filled with the Holy Spirit of God…we will be tempted and have ungodly desires at times. The remedy is repentance and not dwelling on sin and failure, but on victory and purity. Take the cut in wages and start looking to get a raise.
“Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.” Jesus
