COMING AND GOING I
This is a quote that I like: “All people bring joy: some by coming, some by going!” We all know this experience. This can be true of people we love…sometimes it’s good when they come and also really good when they go.
The idea is much like a quote from Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) famous Irish poet and author: “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.” It’s the same context as above, and is often the same person, at perhaps at the same visit. Coming and Going is a learned experience for those visiting and those hosting.
It is also a reminder of the honesty of Solomon when he became king and cried out to the Lord: “Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in” (1 Kings 3:6-8 NASB). He didn’t know if he was Coming or Going (inexperienced in leadership). This is mentioned again in 2 Chronicles 1:10: “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of Yours?”
Knowing about Coming and Going is wisdom.
“Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. “How can this be?” they asked. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
Then he said, “You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: ‘Physician, heal yourself’—meaning, ‘Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’ But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.” Jesus
