WILDERNESS #4

The story of John the Baptist in the wilderness, Moses in the wilderness, Jesus in the wilderness, the children of Israel in the wilderness, are all very real and physical places but they are also more than that. Each one of these stories carries a backstory.

It is no different with us. Every wilderness season we enter has a wilderness reason. Each one of us has a backstory. We all wonder at times why we are where we are. How we got to the wilderness.

The distinction is in the wilderness itself: some are literal physical places and some are mental, emotional or spiritual places. Some of them we choose and some we don’t. When we voluntarily choose the quiet, silent solitude or when we get caught up in depression and fear not of our own choosing… it is all wilderness.

Like John and the gospel, Moses and the children of Israel and the angels for Jesus… we need someone like these to help us find our way out of the wilderness and into a new place.

“Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.” Jesus
