WELCOME HOME
Recently I was talking to a clerk at a local store and something was said about her shift being about over. I said something to effect of, “That’s great, it is always good to go home after a hard days work.” She thought for a moment and pensively said, “Sometimes its good to go home and sometimes it isn’t.”
Home life can be very different for people for many reasons. Some homes are warm and welcoming and full of love and acceptance and some are volatile and conditional and crazy. Often the home one goes to is full of pretense, anger and resentment, both from mates and children. Others are full of laughter and expectation and respect. “Sometimes its good to go home and sometimes it isn’t.”
I once read this quote from Clark Gable, American actor, (1901-1960) “There is nothing more wonderful for a man than to approach his own doorstep knowing that someone on the other side of the door is listening for the sound of his footsteps.” That might be a mate, children or a dog… but someone is listening and waiting and that is truly wonderful. It isn’t so wonderful when no one is listening.
“When a strong man, with all his weapons ready, guards his own house, all his belongings are safe.” Jesus
