THE LEAVEN PERSON
There is a Kingdom parable in Matthew 13 that simply says this: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough” (Matthew 13:33).
The parabolic similarity is clearly that we are ‘the leaven’ that makes change in our culture, our social structures, our politics, businesses, schools, arts and entertainment and everywhere else.
As this parable says, ‘a woman was making bread,’ and that means there is flour, salt, water and the yeast (leaven). The yeast makes it rise and turn into a loaf of bread. Our daily interactions are similar. Often all the parts and pieces are present but there is no one to be the leaven. We are the change-agents. We bring the life, light and love needed to make all things complete. We do this by coming in Jesus’ name and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We bring what changes circumstances into Bread. Kingdom Bread.
“A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough.”
