ROCK A BYE, BABY
Recently in the night I kept hearing the old lullaby ‘Rock a bye baby in the tree top…’ I thought at first my subconscious was trying to rock me to sleep. Then I listened carefully and tried to remember all the words to this children’s lullaby. I checked them out next morning to see if what I thought I heard was true.
Rock a-bye, baby,
On the tree top,
When the wind blows,
The cradle will rock.
When the bow breaks,
The baby will fall,
Down will come baby,
Cradle and all!
Who came up with this sweet little lullaby? ‘When the bow breaks, the baby will fall, down will come baby, cradle and all’? No wonder so many little kids grow up afraid and unstable after being rocked to sleep for a few years to this unnerving tune. Time to change songs.
