There is a Chinese Proverb that says, “There are three kinds of truth: my truth, your truth and the truth.” There are also three kinds of ways: my way, your way and the way. And, there are three kinds of life: my life, your life and the life.
When Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” he is not inferring that he has brought us some truth, or has given a certain way, or gives an option to life. He is also not saying that we have some truth, some way and some life. Rather, I think it is clear he is making a bold and inclusive statement: I am truth, I am the way and I am life. I did not bring them, support them, talk about them or promote them; I am.
The Chinese Proverb is true until we choose Christ and then we have one kind of truth. My truth and your truth get swallowed up in The Truth. Jesus is Truth.
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free… Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” Jesus
