I have noticed in my own life that there are those I lean on and those I rest on…and sometimes they are the same person at the same time for the same thing. If I did not have people like this in my life I would probably be nuts, or at least more nuts!
When we lean on someone it is an action of needing a solid post/pillar of personality to help us remain standing and not fall over. This need may be seldom or often. What makes a good leaning person is a strong heart, strong arm and strong voice. Someone we trust.
When we rest on someone it is an action of clinging when we cannot hold ourselves as we might like. When we have those in our lives that can hold us and give us rest…it is almost miraculous. We come with nothing and they come with something and then things get better… or worse. If we can learn to rest on another…we will soon be ready to try again, or say to heck with it. Either way is OK.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus
