YES, LORD, I BELIEVE
Jesus was in Bethany with his friends, Martha, Mary and their just deceased brother Lazarus, and the text says that Jesus loved all three of them. The two sisters are a little ticked because the Lord had not come soon enough to save Lazarus from dying. Jesus said to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25-27). This is the hope of the Christian! We are in eternal life. We are in resurrection power! We shall never die! We are alive, now and forever! However, there is one “catch”!
Jesus also said, “…whoever lives and believes in me shall never die” (11:26). That is the “catch”. No other self-inflicted or self-supposed condition is required. We “shall live” only because we believe!
Notice the response from Martha, “Yes, Lord, I believe you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is come into the world” (11:27). This we too must believe. There are no options, no multiple choices, no opinions, no traditions, doctrines, dogmas, or myths. It can only be, “Yes, Lord, I believe.”
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” Jesus
