WORSHIP AND MYSTERY
Worship leads to thanksgiving and mystery leads to faith. There is a single favorite text that helps describe this: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). This Trinitarian benediction expresses the mystery of our faith.
These Three, love, grace and fellowship, express the essential nature and function of God. The Father is love, Jesus is grace and the Holy Spirit is fellowship. This is the life of God in us. This is the example of spiritual life as compared to only natural life. This is the characteristic activity of God and is the substance, principle and definition of such activity.
As the very last line of Paul’s letters to Corinth is a ‘blessing’ or benediction of the fullness of what we are to believe: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is also what we are to share with others. We worship with thanksgiving and press in to the mysteries by faith.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus
