WISDOM LISTS #11
How to Name a Dog
Through the years we have owned several dogs. The joy of owning a dog is not easy to describe. Owning a goofy dog that won’t listen, mind and learn is easy to describe. The problem is…we don’t usually name a dog before we know what it will be like. Kind of the same way with naming kids.
If we name a dog Slugo and he turns out to be a coward and whiner… we’re stuck. Slugo the whiner.
So, it really doesn’t matter what we name a dog because it will probably be called something else, usually a derivative of their name: Slugie or Slugy or Buzzy or Whiner or Goofy.
The best way to name a dog is to choose one or two options for a male and the same for a female:
For a male dog: James or Frank.
For a female dog: Margaret or Linda.
Then just call them whatever you like and as long as the name ends in ‘ie’ or ‘y’ as in Jimmy or Linnie they will come running. I don’t think a dog should be named Catheter, Yellow jacket or Quarterback or anything like that. But then again… it doesn’t really matter.
It’s that simple.
