WHOM AND WHAT
Rules are made for order, protection, boundaries, rights and freedoms. Rules can also bring blindness, legalism, tyranny, and destruction. Most organizations have rules of conduct and procedure. That includes the church. Does it ever.
The Bible is simple on various guidelines for worship, service, and conduct. However, there are probably many more traditions and practices than Bible-given examples. Every church group seems to have their set of ‘that’s-the-way-we-do-its.’
It is everyone’s privilege to interpret as they please, but it is not one’s privilege to bind on others what they have determined as ‘truth, especially if someone is “teaching as doctrines the commandments of men” (Mark 7:7) and even so…probably don’t realize this is so. It boils down to this: What we believe must be based on “Whom” more than “What.” Rules and church doctrines are up to the individual but believing in Jesus the Christ is not optional or conditional.
