WHERE IS THE ARK
Back in August of this year I did a series on the Ark of the Covenant (see Archives August 10-17, 2024)
Something came to me the other day while thinking again about the Ark: No one knows what happened to the Ark of the Covenant… or do we? Legend has it that it is in a church building in Ethiopia, others say it is hidden in Jerusalem, others Egypt, Jordon and so on… no one knows for sure. Nothing is known of the Ark after the Babylonians sacked Jerusalem in 586 BCE.
This is the thought I had: What if it was the Lord’s intention to make the covenant change from Old to New complete by obscuring forever the physical Ark so we might fully understand that the presence of God is now within us as his human temples and no longer in “temples made by human hands?” To continue in a temple model seems like it contradicts what the New Covenant change was all about.
So where is the Ark of the Covenant? Inside the believer of Jesus in “a new and living way.” We are now the Ark of the Covenant with the Tablets, Manna and Aaron’s Rod within us.
The book of Hebrews says it clearly: “When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear” (8:13) (Also, all of Hebrews 9, 10).
“For where two or three are assembled in my name, there I am in their midst (in and present with them).” Jesus
