WHAT WE ARE
There have been several comments through the years concerning what we are. ‘We are what we eat.’ ‘We are who we hang out with.’ ‘We are what we worship.’ ‘We are what we watch (screens).’ All of this becomes important when we must come to grips with who we really are, externally and internally. Because, we also will… do what we are.
It doesn’t matter what I eat, what I worship or who I hang out with… if I am a liar, I will lie. If I am a truth-teller, I will tell truth. This all becomes more complex when we honestly assess common situations in light of claims of new life and ‘walking in the Spirit.’ We are what we are beyond our religious talk, church talk, Jesus talk and all other talk. It is more walk than talk.
What we are is what we do…or try to do, and what we think or want to think. Though all of us are being formed and are in different spaces and places along the path… we will do what we are. The big trouble comes when we try to do what we are not. Every child, my neighbors and nearly everyone else knows that’s not what we are. It might be whom we wish to be… but until then, we are who we are. That’s Ok as long as we know it and don’t blow smoke about it.
I want to be Samson… but I’m still working on it.
“I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Jesus
