WE LOVE WHAT WE TRUST
When Jesus came and told us “this is eternal life, to know Him” and then he set about to show us how to know Him, there are no common descriptions we can associate to tell us who he is, and what he looks like. Nothing is said of height, weight, hair, eyes, clothing, or skin color. What is said is a description of what he did and how he did it, (i.e., he healed, he taught, he prayed, etc.).
To “know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent” is put into a new sphere of how to know things. There are only two ways in this process: One, we must have understanding of the one we want to know. This is the fullness of the incarnation: God became man and dwelt among us.
Two, we must have love for the one we want to know. They are usually, if not always, in this order. We love what we know and understand. We love what we trust.
Do you love me? Jesus
