WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE
Recently in the night I heard this phrase over and over for two nights in a row:
“I have seen water under the bridge and I have seen the bridge under water. One is much more peaceful than the other.” I have literally seen both on a number of occasions. One is much more peaceful than the other. It reminded me of the classic song ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water.’
When you’re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all, all
I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I’ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
(Songwriter: Paul Simon, written in 1969)
I suppose the abiding thought for me is to be a bridge even it takes me under the water of the situation. Life is not always a clear slow moving stream, but can be a murky strong torrent and will need a strong bridge for others and myself.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” Jesus
