UNITY IN LOVE
“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am…” (Matthew 18:20). Whenever anyone sees two or three who really love one another, they are seeing God. God is being revealed to them. The only evidence of God’s Spirit among us is our unity of love. It is here we can ‘taste’ the Spirit. To see one who is a lover is impressive, but to see two, three, or more, is overwhelming.
There is no appeal to Jesus that can have any ethical meaning if those of us who call ourselves Christians back-peddle, or double-talk, on the original claim that God made: “This same Jesus who was crucified is both Lord and Christ” (Acts of the Apostles 2:36). The same claim is our claim. He is both Lord and Christ of everyone who hopes and dreams of creative love. He is Lord and Christ of all those who desire the Dove of God to rest on them and to be found as two or three in a ‘little gospel community’ of love. If Jesus is not this kind of Lord and Christ, then He is just like all other women and men who ‘do good things’ and ‘nice things.’ But, He is more! He is God! He is man!
