TWINKLING OF AN EYE
Years ago I was looking for a person in a very rural area. There was not much population and mostly farming and ranching country. I stopped and asked a man where the place might be I was looking for and he told me and then replied, “If you drive through there and blink your eye you might miss it.”
Thinking about that incident recently I was reminded again of 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, “Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.”
Just how long is this twinkling of the eye business? How long does it take to twinkle an eye? How long is a blink? A flutter? Or say, the batting of the eye? Or, several blinks? A shimmer?
Strong’s Bible Word Studies says it is literally ‘the jerk of the eye’ and ‘by analogy an instant twinkling.’
I guess my concern is, “If we blink we might miss it.” Fat chance… you won’t when you hear the deafening blast of Gabriel’s heavenly trumpet knocking your eardrums into next week…(except after that there will be no next week) unless you have no idea what I am writing about. If you don’t know…then you might ‘blink and miss it.’ No one will miss it. We all need our eyes adjusted for twinkling and our ears adjusted to listen for strong trumpet blasts. And our knees adjusted for bowing because every knee will bow at this time. It is very important to make all these adjustments.
I’m headed over to the other side of the pond to do a little eye and ear hygiene. Then I will fix a Raspberry Smoothie and shout, “O death where is your victory? O death where is your sting?” And sit and watch the sun go peacefully down.
“I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death. ” Jesus
