TRUE FRIENDSHIP
True friendship presupposes a pact of fidelity, capable of giving without looking for a return. Friendship is above surface ideas and it is not broken by adversity. Once born, it is very difficult for it to die. It does not know treachery. Though tried and forged through many trials, it remains fresh, strong, genuine and warm. It is virginal in its effects.
Friendship was the first gift that the Lord offered to man. It is his first gift and word to us every morning and evening until the coming of the new heaven and earth. Friendship is born of the spirit and of the flesh at the same time. Therefore, it is reminiscent of Jesus and it is easy to find the best elements of love at the heart of a real friendship.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.” ` Jesus
