TRAINING FOR REIGNING III
For the last couple of days we have considered some ideas about Genesis 1:28: “Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” (Genesis 1:28 NLT) My main idea is that we are to rule and reign and are given responsibility of earth and animal keeping with the same principled values as Jesus reigns in the spiritual Kingdom of God.
Dallas Willard (1935-2013) professor and author wrote:
“God gives us the ability to improve the world. No good will come of either blaming God for our ills or sitting around waiting for God to do what we ought to have the sense and ambition enough to accomplish for ourselves. God has put the natural abilities and means at our disposal with which to make this world a decent and pleasant place to live. This is precisely the reason why he will hold us responsible for failing at the task. And all those who charge God with the evil of this world lay themselves open to the charge of insincerity unless they are doing all within their power to dispel the evil of this world.” (From ‘The Allure of Gentleness: Defending the Faith in the Manner of Jesus’)
We might just need better training for reigning.
(Note: I am not formulating or promoting ideas of ‘Dominionism’ or ‘Reconstruction Theology’ along the line of Rushdooney, North, etc. But I am promoting responsible living and actions for our earth and animals in the philosophy, style and faith of Jesus and the Kingdom of God.)
“I tell you the truth, the things you don’t allow on earth will be the things God does not allow. And the things you allow on earth will be the things that God allows.” Jesus
