TOOTHPICKS
There were toothpicks before there were toothpicks. Back when our ancestors were finally off of all four and starting to drag their fingers and walk somewhat upright they were mostly out looking for food. Of course they were all pretty much Paleo in their diet habits. Various meats from Dinosaur to Salmon and with the meats were various vegetables: broccoli, carrots, Brussels sprouts, corn, green beans, and for sure onions, chilies, cilantro and tomatoes (salsa). It was basically meat and salsa. Sounds like a pretty good diet to me. But being Paleolithic people, some have been called cavemen/cavewomen, or Stone Age. Which is no way to talk about our relatives… although I do have a couple of cousins that…never mind.
So, having this Paleo diet means often having meat stuck in your teeth. These people would go out in the woods and find sharp sticks, or make them with sharpened flint, or use fish bones to pick their teeth. Then they would take small sticks and stub the ends and use them as a scrub brush. I worked with a guy in the Forest Service who did the same thing… he had no cavities…and he also did have some Paleo-like… never mind. This is just to make it clear that there were toothpicks before there were toothpicks.
No, really this is what happened.
