TO KNOW GOD’S WILL
There are many ideas, books and messages concerning ‘How to Know God’s Will.’ Usually this means that a person wants to know God’s will for their life and not really so much what is ‘the will of God.’ One of these may be easier to answer than the other.
Jesus clearly says, “For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” (John 6:38-40) That is God’s will.
How to Know God’s Will for our specific individual life calling and function may take some scrapping, scraping, digging and listening… or, maybe not. It will first include the above general concept from John 6 before it concerns us personally. Our knowing might be made easier by these principles:
Prayer and fasting
Principles of Scripture
Hearing the Lord speak to us
The desires from seeking God
The providence of circumstances
The counsel of Godly people
I do not personally think there are any shortcuts… we must hear from the Lord on what we are to do with our life.
“If any of you really determines to do God’s will, then you will certainly know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own.” Jesus
