THE STREET LIGHT
Our nearest and immediate Street Light recently burned out and our cul-de-sac became very dark. We live in a condensed, or concentrated, environment in our neighborhood and the absence of light in the Trailer Park is very noticeable… much like it was in Genesis 1:
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth (or one might say, The Trailer Park…) was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep (or The Trailer Park…see how that easily applies?). And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters (or The Trailer Park). And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.” The fix-it man for the Trailer Park had the light fixed the next day. No problem.
Light and Darkness are contrasted throughout scripture…we usually walk in some of both and the challenge is to always prefer and walk in the light. Often it is not the Spirit or the Fix-it Man that must deal with and fix it when we have no light…most of the time it is up to us to choose and follow the light and turn from darkness. Free darkness. Free light. Free will. Free choice.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus
