THE SMALL GATE
The way to the Kingdom is never the path of the crowd. It is never the path of least resistance, but is a narrow, difficult and winding way, which requires us to ‘go against nature.’ As long as man identifies himself with a group consciousness, he will follow the easiest road, taking the easiest way, neglecting the need to inspect and confront the individuality of self.
Trying to see and enter the Kingdom from the perspective of our denomination, lodge, group, gang, union, association, or any other way rather than a single way …will not work. The Group way would have us say the right things, chant the right secret chants, answer the right things and give the right secret signals and quote the right doctrines and sayings of the group…whether Christian or otherwise. But Jesus demands we must come alone. All by ourselves we must confront the demands and invitation of the Lord. No hiding behind some ‘Doctrinal Statement’ or Lodge Code, or church, or Secret Book Doctrine, or Secret Entry, Secret Handshake, or any other Baloney. It is a Small and Narrow Gate. We either enter alone or go on our merry (dreary) way.
I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond to measure the size of the small gate. I’m thinking Cuban Coffee and Carnitas Tacos and Pico de Gallo and Tres Leches Cake will help with sorting out of these ideas and calculations.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Jesus
