THE PREREQUISITE OF LOVE
Fred Rodgers (“Mr. Rogers”) (1928-2003) was producer of the children’s television show “Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood.” He wrote, “Listening is a very active awareness of the coming together of at least two lives. Listening, as far as I’m concerned, is certainly a prerequisite of love. One of the most essential ways of saying “I love you” is being a receptive listener.”
To me there are two ways of listening when communicating with others: one is to listen carefully to the other person and next, is to listen carefully to what we are saying when we answer the other person.
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” (Proverbs 19:20)
“Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Jesus
