THE MOUNT IS TO MAKE US
Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) wrote, “We are not built for the mountains and the dawns and aesthetic affinities; those are for moments of inspiration that is all. We are built for the valley, for the ordinary stuff we are in, and that is where we have to prove our mettle…the mount is not meant to teach us anything, it is meant to make us something.”
It is easily understood that we live in the valley and not on the mountain. However, without the “mount to make us” we live in the lower (valley) part of life without ever seeing the high part. The mountain is where we go alone, seek alone, ask alone and hear alone what the Lord has for us. And, as good as it is on the mountain… we cannot stay there. We must always leave the mountain and go to the people.
He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Jesus
