THE INTERVENTION
I remember a few years back when I first heard about the idea of ‘Intervention’ with someone. The whole idea was to confront a person concerning their behavior, attitude or actions because they were not in conformity to the normal. Not only this, but to take others along with you: family, fellow work persons, or related parties in some way to make the case. “Human Systems Intervention (HSI) is the design and implementation of interventions in social settings where adults are confronted with the need to change their perspectives, attitudes, and actions. Depending on the philosophical and theoretical orientation of the intervener, the process can be approached as a planned, systematic, and collaborative activity.” (Wikipedia) OK, then, there you have it.
This is usually an intervention with someone who has alcohol, drug addiction, pornography, substance abuse, depression, or gambling, etc. With the strength and opinion of the collective the person is confronted by intervention.
Jesus mentioned it in Matthew 18, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.” Intervention.
This all seems reasonable and became more so when I read: “When his family (Jesus’) heard about it, they set out to take charge of him (Jesus), because people were saying, “He’s gone mad!” (Mark 3.21) Intervention.
When we go into intervention it is important to know who has gone nuts and who hasn’t.
