THE HOLY OF HOLIES
In the Book of Exodus we read about the instructions for the Tabernacle given to Moses. There were two main parts on the inside of the Tabernacle: The Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, or the Most Holy Place. In the Holy Place was The Golden Candlestick that illuminated it, as it had no opening to admit light. It contained the Table of Showbread (Bread of Presence) and the Golden Altar of Incense (a continuous fragrant incense offering to the Lord). It was divided from the Holy of Holies by a veil of the most costly materials and the brightest colors.
The Holy of Holies was through this veil and into a separate room that contained the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark contained the Ten Commandments, Aaron’s rod and a jar holding the manna (Hebrews 9:4). On top of the Ark was a lid called a Mercy Seat with two cherubim (winged angelic beings) that were mounted on the lid. This place was known as the Presence of the Lord or the Dwelling Place of God.
In the New Testament Jesus entered through the Veil…he became the Golden candlestick…the Light of the World, the Bread of Presence…the Bread that came down from heaven, the Incense Offering…offered as a complete sacrifice, he is the Manna from heaven, he is the Rod and authority of the Lord and he is The Law of God.
The apostle Paul wrote, “our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God” and “we are a temple (dwelling place) of the living God.”
Thanks to Jesus we are now the Holy of Holies… the Dwelling Place of God…a staggering thought.
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” Jesus
