THE GOD WE WORSHIP
When Moses was given The Ten Commandments, the first command from the Lord was, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God…“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.” (Book of Exodus 20:1-7)
The Lord seemed very certain and serious about worship and what, whom and how we are to do so. This all stayed rather obtuse and oblique through the history of Israel as they struggled to faithfully live the Old Covenant.
Then came the Incarnation… “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” (Gospel of John 1:14-18)
Jesus explained the Law given to Moses by explaining the Father in grace and truth. Glory to his name!
“All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” Jesus
