THE GLORY OF THE LORD
Many times in scripture we read about ‘a cloud’ or ‘the glory of the Lord filled the temple’ and this is called Shekinah glory (though Shekinah is not a Biblical word). Shekinah from the Jewish scriptures is a ‘Hebrew word meaning, “dwelling” or “settling” and denotes the presence of God, as it were, in a place.’
For examples:
Exodus 40:35
“Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.”
Ezekiel 10:3-5
“The cherubim were standing at the south end of the Temple when the man went in, and the cloud of glory filled the inner courtyard. Then the glory of the Lord rose up from above the cherubim and went over to the entrance of the Temple. The Temple was filled with this cloud of glory, and the courtyard glowed brightly with the glory of the Lord. The moving wings of the cherubim sounded like the voice of God Almighty and could be heard even in the outer courtyard.”
1 Kings 8:10-11
“When the priests came out of the Holy Place, a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of the Lord.”
The Revelation of Jesus Christ 15:8
“The Temple was filled with smoke from God’s glory and power.”
The temple has changed. We are now the temple. The glory has not changed. We are the dwelling place. We are where Shekinah dwells.
“I tell you, there is one here who is even greater than the Temple!” Jesus
