THE FINISH LINE
I recently got this phrase: ‘We must go to the Starting Line to expect to see the Finish Line.’ That seemed simple enough, obvious enough. But there appeared to be more to this than I understood.
There are several scriptures that reminded me of ‘the race’ metaphor. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!”
(1Corinthians 9:24).
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us”
(Hebrews 12:1).
These verses so perfectly described the busy, fast paced, in a hurry race mentality we often put on ourselves. When asked, ‘How are you doing?’ The answer often is, ‘Busy… crazy busy.’ Then, ‘With what?’ Answer, ‘Stuff… you know.’
The race in scripture is to live a faithful, fruitful and good fight life. But, we have to start and stay in the race. We are told to ‘run to win’ ‘the race God has set before us.’ Where is the Finish Line? When we croak and can run no more.
“Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants.” Jesus
