THE CALLING # 9
Some final thoughts on gifts and callings.
Though we may have specific gifts that are used often; if we are truly submitted to the Lord’s will and voice, I think we can be used with any Holy Spirit gift, at any time as the Lord pleases. For example: If an often-used gift is healing the sick and discernment of spirits is needed in a situation we should expect to be able to discern. The same is true of diverse gifts of prophecy, word of wisdom, faith, giving, word of knowledge or teaching… if it is needed, it can/will be given by the Lord.
We perhaps do not have recognizable gifts and callings because we have never asked for them.
“The same God works all things in all persons.”
(1 Corinthians 12:6) “Ask and it will be given to you.” (Luke 11:9)
All gifts and callings operate from the power of the Holy Spirit. We must be filled with the Spirit and have a spiritual rebirth to operate in spiritual gifts and callings. Natural talent and gifts such as, ‘the gift of gab,’ ‘play it by ear,’ or ‘thinking on my feet’ or ‘holding a crowd’ are often from our ego and of little value to Kingdom principles.’ It’s not about us.
Also, I see nothing in scripture that indicates distinction of gender on the giving of gifts and callings. Every man and woman can do any and everything the Lord calls and gifts them to do. To disallow women certain functions in the Body of Christ is a man idea and not a God idea. The ‘good ol’ boy’s club’ came up with that religious baloney. There are no ‘boy gifts and girl gifts’ or ‘blue gifts and pink gifts.’ We only do what we are gifted to do but if we also advocate that women cannot have certain gifts and callings then they are encouraged and trained not to ask for or expect them. That’s nonsense to me. Roz can do anything she wants to do and anything that I do if the Lord asks her to do it. “But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the gift of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:7) “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, and there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Jesus
