THE BURNING LAMP
Jesus said in The Sermon the Mount, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
The primary purpose for us to become light is that we might shine in darkness. There are plenty of dark spots where the burning lamp of the gospel needs to penetrate. This happens when we realize that the gospel is not so much a message as it is a person living a message.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997), wrote, “Do not look for Jesus away from yourselves. He is not out there; he is in you. Keep your lamp burning, and you will recognize him.”
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus
