THE BIRTH OF JESUS
I had a dream and it was rather like a prayer… it started with this line, “Jesus come and be born in the stable of my heart.” Then I saw a scene of the condition of my heart and it is this very condition that I was asking Jesus to come into and be born. I saw the filth, odor, poverty, sin and disorder not to mention the interior of my heart with its anger, resentment, pride, prejudice, fear and corruption.
Then I heard myself asking, “And I am inviting the Lord Jesus to be born in this stable?”
I heard this reply, “Your heart with its stable and manger are just as obscure, unlikely and unknown as was Bethlehem. I am born when and where I am invited and so are you.”
For the first time ever I saw the physical stable of Bethlehem as a clear picture of the human heart (my human heart). I was broken and sorrowful and full of repentance at the thought. Then my next question came, “Why would you want to be born in my stable?”
I then heard the Lord say, “This is what it means to be born again. To allow me to come into your heart as my stable and by the Holy Spirit cause you to be born from above and to cleanse and make you new. As I was born clean and pure, so shall you be. The shepherds will come to you and bring gifts of joy. The bright star will appear every time someone allows me to be born in the stable of his or her heart. Angels will rejoice every time I am born in the stable of someone’s heart.”
Then I saw a bright light and was awake. (End of dream)
“When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.” Jesus
