SYNTHETIC THINKING
The term synthetic means to imitate something natural with something that is not natural… it is a synthetic. This idea goes from objects and products into emotions and actions that are, inauthentic, insincere or synthetic.
Synthetic Thinking is when we imitate thinking that someone else has thought as if we thought it. It is ideas that are not original thoughts or processes. We all are formed from information, influence and education we have received from others. However, even with information we have accumulated we need to make the effort to think and process carefully everything about what/how we have been taught and formed both by experience, schools or churches. Beyond plagiarism of ideas and thoughts there is also the synthetic possibility of emotions, actions or things of the Spirit. It is living off of the experience and actions of others instead of those we have concluded for ourselves.
We might ask: What prompts, or opinions or sources help form my opinion? Or, what the heck am I doing over on this side of the pond?
Paul, an apostle, wrote, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Jesus
