SURPRISE
Often we do not like surprises because during childhood and through life we have been wounded and hurt by surprises from parents and others who have damaged our surprise mechanism. If we have been disappointed by a lot by surprises, sooner or later, we learn not to like them, because we have been hurt too often. We might get excited with anticipation and then have our bubble popped and we go flat.
We may go through life flat and guarded against any surprise with calculated thinking and in control of all situations so we will not be caught by any kind of surprise. This makes receiving gifts and presenting gifts a difficult chore because presentation and gifts are about beauty, surprise, giving and receiving. Beauty may be missed because surprise was missed.
“If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure.” Jesus
