STUDY AND CONTEMPLATION
There is a new way of absorbing spirituality. The old and historical way of didactic interchange has given way to absorption of knowledge through all the senses. To appreciate a lecture seems beyond the capacity of anyone under 40 years old. The digital age of concepts through various media must be used to touch a generation and the touching must be short, direct, visual and relevant.
I believe this will require a couple of things. If people no longer are ‘grounded in the faith’ by repetitious study of scripture and various disciplines of reading and study, then doing the works of Jesus will be contaminated with sheer humanism, moralism or New Age goodness.
The answer seems to be in forming a life of contemplation. From the place of contemplation where we center ourselves on Jesus and hear His voice and pray in silence and solitude, comes a life prepared to be the Word to others. This is probably the best way to bring the gospel of kingdom in power and reality. The only thing greater would be to have a life of study and contemplation. But, if this generation will not do this, then by all means it should be contemplation and then acts of compassion.
