SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS
“Spiritual direction is the practice of being with people as they attempt to deepen their relationship with the divine, or to learn and grow in their own personal spirituality.” Wikipedia
One of our dearest friends is a woman who does this amazing work of spiritual direction. She has had much training and education to prepare her but her greatest skills come from a long life of dedicated prayer, study of scripture and service to others. What a gift is she.
I am sure she would agree with Kallitos Ware, English Bishop of the Eastern Orthodox Church, who writes, “It is not enough for [a spiritual father] to offer advice. He is also required to take up the soul of his spiritual children into his own soul, their life into his own life. It is his task to pray for them, and his constant intercession on their behalf is more important to them than any words of counsel.”
“I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.” Jesus
