SOUL CARE
Loving truth is the core of caring for our souls.
John, an apostle, wrote the letters of 1,2,3 John to the Christians in Asia Minor (modern Turkey) and it’s believed he was back in Ephesus (also in Turkey) and writing to people and churches he had previously been with. He wrote:
“The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:1-4) The soul prospers and is cared for by ‘walking in truth’ with no mixtures, lies, and without deceptions.
John wrote earlier, “The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth, for the sake of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.” (2 John 1:1-3) The second component of Soul Care is love.
Soul Prospering is being who we were intended to be: beloved children of the Father who walk in truth and love. John said in his gospel, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17) He also wrote in 1 John 4:7-8: “ Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been fathered by God and knows God. The person who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
Love and truth prospers our soul.
