SELF-LOVE
“Discouragement is simply the despair of wounded self-love.” Francois Fenelon (1651-1715)
I was recently re-reading some of Fenelon’s work that I bravely go to on occasion. He was a French Catholic archbishop, theologian, poet and writer. His deep mysticism and spiritual practices have long been a favorite challenge to me.
So when I came to the above quote about ‘wounded self-love’ I easily understood my recent discouragement. Fenelon can do this to me.
I’m headed over to the other side of the Pond to have some Cuban Coffee and Double Chocolate Cookies with Chocolate Icing and try to sooth and smooth my ego back into place.
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” Jesus
