SELF-JUSTIFIED
Psalm 131 is only three short verses:
“LORD, my heart is not proud;
I don’t look down on others.
I don’t do great things,
and I can’t do miracles.
But I am calm and quiet,
like a baby with its mother.
I am at peace, like a baby with its mother.
People of Israel, put your hope in the LORD
now and forever.”
To deal honestly with our thoughts and evaluations of self are so important. Regardless of what we may do or may be, we can live in calm, quiet and peace ‘like a baby with its mother.’ The way we do this, and the only way, is by ‘putting our hope in the Lord now and forever.’
If on the other hand we begin to self-justify, it is also to self-satisfy. When everything becomes about ‘me’ it becomes small and boring.
“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus
