ROY G. BIV
‘ROY G. BIV Is a popular phrase used to remember the colors of the rainbow – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet – in order.’ But how can a person remember that if they cannot remember a guy named Roy or something like that..?
“And God said, “This is the guarantee of the covenant I am making with you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all subsequent generations: I will place my rainbow in the clouds, and it will become a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, then I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures of all kinds. Never again will the waters become a flood and destroy all living things. When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will notice it and remember the perpetual covenant between God and all living creatures of all kinds that are on the earth.” So God said to Noah, “This is the guarantee of the covenant that I am confirming between me and all living things that are on the earth.” (Genesis 9:12-16)
A most interesting thing to me is the fact that there are seven colors in the rainbow and in Biblical numerology that is a perfect number. A perfect guarantee, a lasting covenant between the Lord and all living creatures on the earth. I can remember the covenant better than the ROY dude. But, then again, another famous quote says: ‘Without the rain there is no rainbow.’
“When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.” Jesus
