REPENTANCE REVISITED
Richard Rohr once wrote, “If we do not transform our pain, we will most assuredly transmit it.”
“To repent is to come to your senses. It is not so much something you do as something that happens. True repentance spends less time looking at the past and saying, “I’m sorry,” than to the future and saying, “Wow!” Frederick Buechner
Regardless of our perception, repentance so often feels like failure instead of a fresh start. If we can translate it into “Wow!” we are a long ways down the road to recovery.
“Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Jesus
