REMEMBER THE LORD
Everything we have, both physical and spiritual, is strictly a gift from God. It is easy to get caught up into believing we have what we have because we earned it, worked for it, traded for it, educated for it, sacrificed for it, or in some way ‘we burned some kind of midnight oil’ to get it. All of these, of course, can be forms of honest gain, and should be. Scripture is clear that we should work, save, invest, provide and be wise in our gaining; but even so, it is all a gift of God.
“Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.”
Book of Deuteronomy 8:17-19
Our call is to “remember the Lord our God.” What a wonderful Father God! He gives life… all of it. He gives stout bodies, clear minds, stable emotions, strong backs, bright eyes, sure hands, nimble fingers, and adequate memory. He places in our created brains desire to achieve, develop, build, conquer, console, love, cry, and carry thousands of thoughts, goals, dreams, plans and ideas. These are all gifts.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Jesus
