PRAYER AND FASTING
I keep hearing ‘it is time to stop fasting from prayer.’ The term is usually Prayer and Fasting. I so admire those who fast and pray in a serious and consistent practice. I also truly appreciate those in various shepherding roles that lead others in prayer and fasting by example.
I so quickly recall the great prayer and fasting movements among Christ’s people in the 1980’s and 1990’s and how it was ‘normal’ and not some big deal. It now seems to ‘call a convocation’ (a gathering or assembly of people) for Prayer and Fasting seems extreme. I know seasons come and go… but I believe this practice should not be cyclical, but maintained.
I have never known a truly sustained and growing spiritual movement in a person, church, leadership or ministry that did not also practice Prayer and Fasting. The other condition for this sustained development is generous, non-manipulated and normal giving. They all just seem to go together.
It is time to stop fasting from prayer. At least…it is time for me to stop fasting from prayer.
