PART TIME CHRISTIAN
I remember years ago when someone asked me if I was in full-time or part-time ministry. To rephrase the question the way Dallas Willard once said it, “Are you in full-time Christian service or part time Christian service?” These kinds of distinctions can only come from a crazy man-made and religious culture.
To know anything at all about scripture, Jesus, his teaching and emphasis is to know that we are neither full nor part time disciples. We have given up all ideas of time and ownership by having committed our selves to a new Master with a new purpose and a New Kingdom. As Paul, an apostle, wrote, “You are not your own, you were bought with a price.”
It appears to me that the early New Testament church would not only have found this full time/part time idea to be absurd and illogical but also almost laughable.
I find it that way also.
“And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Jesus
