OUT OF THE DITCH
“As you well know, even when driving on a straight stretch of road, you still have to keep adjusting your direction to stay on course. You may not notice it at first, but just the slightest change in trajectory will, sooner or later, put you in the ditch.
In the same way, people rarely embrace the evil that is obvious. The devil in my dreams is easy to recognize; it’s the devil in everyday life that is often hard to detect. True, the Bible can help us, but it can’t save us, as even the devil will quote the scriptures. Only Jesus can save us. So with humility and tenacity, stay close to him. Ask him to help you recognize and resist the tiny compromises with evil that, sooner or later, will put you in the ditch.” Dave Peterson
It is the devil in my mind that is the most difficult, not to detect, but to reject. I may not be living out any particular form of evil in my person and all the while living it out in my mind. This is surely why the mind needs to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul, an apostle, said, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” and when we do this we are truly transformed. It is also the only way to stay out of the ditch.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Jesus
