ORIGIN OF GOOD AND EVIL
Little is known, from scripture or otherwise, as to the origin of good and evil. We are told of the ‘fallen angel’ Lucifer and how he was booted out of heaven with ‘a third of the fallen lesser angels’ and that’s about it on evil until the snake appears in The Garden story. The snake was obviously in existence before humans and thus appeared to them. Even if the story of The Garden is a myth, it does not take away from the fact that since time began evil and good existed. If it started in The Garden, or didn’t, evil does exist and so does good.
On the other hand, God is no more spontaneous to tell us of the ‘God origin,’ but it is again obvious in the display of love and mercy to be an opposite of evil. We can also know that for us to reach our maximum is to ‘be in the image of God’ and the maximum of defect is to the degree we have the image of Satan and evil.
The origin of hope concerning good and evil is in the origin of Jesus. He came to earth and lived among us. He showed us God the Father. And in grace we find our hope and origin as well as our purpose and destination.
“The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure.” Jesus
